Standard #4: Texting Etiquette

Alright, here’s one that’s been on the forefront of my mind as of late. I’ve been texting, calling, skyping, etc. all to get it in contact with one certain guy. I gotta tell you though, nothing bothers me more texting him. You see, there’s all these rules when texting a guy that don’t exist when you’re texting your friends. First off, I like to ramble on for days - can’t do that in a text. Have to sound suave, have to be short and sweet, can’t use too many smiley faces. GOD FORBID YOU USE TOO MANY SMILEY FACES! Limit one per text, and even then - use them sparingly. So there’s that. Also, time frames. Sometimes I forget to answer texts right away. Can’t do that with guys. Because if I wait one hour they wait two,and at that rate you’ll have to spend over a day to get through “hey, how’s it going” and the response. Also, guys are hard to read in person - let alone over a small blackberry screen. This mystery guy I mentioned earlier, he doesn’t talk as much as I do. That’s fine to balance out my blabbermouth ways in person, but hell if I know what he means in half of his texts. And there lies the problem. My advice is, if it’s important - call or hang out. Texting has it’s time and place, though. Great way to subtly remind someone you’re thinking of them, or to start a line of communcation with someone new.

And while we’re at it, if you are hanging out with someone new - shut off the phone during the date. Nothing more inconsiderate than someone having two conversations at once, especially if you fancy them. It’s a two way road, folks. I know it’s hard - but we’re trying to work our way towards true love here! (or at least lust/like)
